How to Use the Meta Tag Generator

Enter your page title, description, and URL in the form above. The generator creates standard HTML meta tags, Open Graph tags for Facebook and LinkedIn, and Twitter Card markup in one step.

Copy the generated HTML and paste it into your page's <head> section. Every tag is optional. Fill in only what you need. The generator escapes special characters automatically so your markup is always valid.

What Are Meta Tags?

Meta tags are HTML elements in your page's <head> that tell search engines and social platforms about your content. The two most important for SEO are the <title> tag and the <meta name="description"> tag. These control what users see in Google search results.

Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image) control how your page appears when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms. Twitter Card tags do the same for Twitter/X. Without these tags, platforms will guess. They usually guess wrong.

How many characters should my title tag be? +
Google displays roughly 50-60 characters of a title tag in search results. Anything longer gets truncated with an ellipsis. Front-load your most important keywords.
How long should my meta description be? +
Aim for 150-160 characters. Google sometimes shows longer descriptions (up to ~320 characters), but the safe zone is under 160. Write for humans. This is your elevator pitch in search results.
Do keywords in the meta keywords tag help SEO? +
No. Google has officially ignored the meta keywords tag since 2009. Bing may still use it as a minor signal. It's included here for completeness, but don't rely on it for ranking.
What size should my Open Graph image be? +
The recommended size is 1200x630 pixels. This works well across Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and most other platforms. Use a high-contrast image. It'll appear as a thumbnail in many contexts.
